In the case of concerned local communities versus Shell, government has so far clearly been in the latter camp.

When opposition to Shell’s planned seismic survey on the Wild Coast grew, Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe called objections to developments in the upstream petroleum industry as a "special type" of apartheid and colonialism.
