When Michael Jordaan stepped down as FNB CEO in 2013, he didn't exactly have intentions of establishing another bank. All he felt then was that it was time to stop sitting in boardrooms.

"When I was CEO at FNB, I spent 14 hours a day to ensure FNB would win," said Jordaan.

The retail banking sector in SA was already getting competitive in terms of who has the best technology. The 14-hour days ensured that FNB won the accolade of being the world's most innovative bank in 2012.
