With the Communication Workers Union (CWU) drawing a line in the sand, in its attempts to get retrenchment consultations going with the leadership of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), the public service broadcaster is in for another turbulent week if the board is unable to mollify staff.

On Thursday, the CWU announced that it would begin a strike at the SABC over its retrenchment plans, while the Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (Bemawu) has launched litigation efforts against the broadcaster's plans.
