Government is considering creating a new investment company that will manage its stakes in South Africa's state-owned enterprises (SOEs) such as Eskom, Denel and Transnet. The company could also, eventually, take shares in private sector businesses.

The Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) is still looking at a number of potential shareholder management models for SOES.

DPE director-general Kgathatso Tlhakudi told a parliamentary committee last week that the process is under way to establish the new company.
