The MTN Group says that Karl Toriola will be heading up its operations in Nigeria from March next year.

Toriola is the current vice president for the mobile operator's businesses in West and Central Africa.

He will succeed Ferdi Moolman, who will step down from his role as MTN Nigeria CEO with effect from March 1, 2021. In an update to shareholders on Monday, MTN said Moolman will return to its head office in South Africa to assume the role of group chief risk officer.

Moolman joined MTN in 2002 and has held several senior positions within the group in Nigeria and in Iran.

Toriola’s successor as vice president for WECA will be announced after the group strategy review is completed by the end of November 2020.

"Karl brings extensive technical and commercial experience, as well as a deep understanding of the Nigeria market to the role," said MTN Group President and CEO Ralph Mupita in a statement. "Karl started his MTN career in his home country at MTN Nigeria 14 years ago and has all the attributes necessary to lead this very important business into the future."
