It's quite possible that some people who live in urban metros may not know about Agrimark, an agricultural and lifestyle retailer that has stores in farming towns like Bredsdorp, Ceres and Vryburg. Kaap Agri also has other brands, such as Liquormark and Expressmark and quick service restaurants under the Fego café brand.
Even though the company has 200 operating points including retail stores, forecourt restaurants and refuelling stations in approximately 95 cities in SA and Namibia, it has not enjoyed the brand recognition expected of the player of its size or much analyst coverage, even though it has been listed for over three years now.
But that may change if Kaap Agri's new big plans play out as CEO, Sean Walsh intends. During the announcement of the company's financial results for the year ended in September, Kaap Agri announced that going forward, Agrimark will be positioned as the group's main consumer facing retail brand.
