Markus Jooste and retailer Steinhoff are being sued by the horse racing company Jooste ran for more than a decade over a multi-billion-rand share swap agreement entered into in 2011.

Mayfair Speculators held Jooste's horse breeding and racing interests, as well as shares in horse stud operations and sales. At its height, it owned about 400 horses, including Legal Eagle, a former horse of the year that won over R12 million in prize money.
