State cans controversial plan for mining rights database - opts for 'off the shelf' instead

The Department of Mineral Resources (DMRE) has abandoned its controversial plans for a bespoke cadastral system in favour of a tried and tested solution.

Briefing the media on the sidelines of the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Monday, DDG of minerals and petroleum regulation Tseliso Maqubela said the tender for a functioning cadastral system is expected to be launched by the end of the month.
