Minister of the Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Barbara Creecy has given floating powership company Karpowership SA a lifeline by ruling that it can resubmit parts of its environmental impact assessment.

Karpowership, which is seeking to add 1220 MW of 'emergency' power to SA's grid, had its application for environmental authorisation refused by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) in June last year. The department criticised gaps in the group's public consultation process and its failure to undertake an underwater noise modelling study.

Creecy this week dismissed all eight grounds for appeal put forward by Karpowership against last year's ruling, stating that its application contained "material and fatal" defects, particularly around its substandard public participation process.
