Billionaire mining magnate Patrice Motsepe's African Rainbow Energy and Power (AREP) has continued its expansion into SA's renewable energy sector, after the consortium it forms part of won just under half of the projects awarded in the state's latest push for green energy.

AREP is a member of the Ikamva equity consortium, which won preferred bidder status for 12 of the 25 projects awarded in bid window 5 of the state's renewable power plan.
