Hearings by the Public Protector into claims of wrongdoing in the state's long-running renewable energy programme crept forward in stops and starts on Wednesday.
A top official from the Department of Public Enterprises said questions appeared premised on the fact there was "something wrong" with the government's independent power producer programme.
Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane denied her office was seeking to find fault with the state's Renewable Energy IPP Procurement Programme (REIPPPP), saying she was simply trying to determine whether the complaints of wrongdoing from an NGO could be substantiated.
