The board of Rain is still debating the Telkom bid that it was forced to retract in August, but it will have something to present before the end of this month, according to major shareholder African Rainbow Capital (ARC).
Given ARC's view that fibre is a capital-hungry space with lower returns, the data-only mobile operator may only gun for Telkom's mobile business. In fact, during the group's financial results presentation, ARC co-CEO Johan van Zyl specifically said that Rain was committed to entering the mobile market.
"With the additional spectrum, we can now also move into the mobile space in addition to the present focus on fixed-home-type wireless services," said Van Zyl.
