As Steinhoff moves forward with its proposal to settle all the investor lawsuits it is facing, a major claimant representing clients of a number of large South African asset managers has gone to court in an attempt to stop the process in its tracks.

The suit could throw a spanner in the works of the embattled retailer's plans to put its legal troubles behind it.

The litigation is being brought against Steinhoff by Hamilton BV and Hamilton 2 BV, two Irish-headquartered companies pursuing R14 billion in claims against Steinhoff.
