Franchise chain Spur and its restaurants, which offer a family experience and a "taste for life", found itself in a predicament with the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions on sit-down dining.

Former CEO Pierre van Tonder's successor, Val Nichas, came out with guns blazing in the form of a new strategy to put the chain on a better footing, making changes to its offerings to meet the changing market and consumer demand.

The group announced on Tuesday that it would launch a drive-through option for RocoMamas, a Spur drive-through clip-on (linked to a restaurant) option and a Bento drive-through click and collect option. This is a format which is completely new to Spur, but reminiscent of its rival, Famous Brands.
