Khanyisile Kweyama has resigned from her role a supervisory board member at embattled retail brand owner Steinhoff.

In a statement on Monday, the retailer said Kweyama who has been part of its supervisory board since 2018, has resigned with immediate effect to focus on a business opportunity that may conflict with her role at the retailer.

"I would liketo thank Khanyisile for her service to the company and we wish her well in her future endeavours," said Steinhoff’s chairperson Moira Moses.

Former Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste is being charged for fraud in Germany, while the company works on settling with investors, following its scandal that resulted in billions in losses.
