National Liquor Traders (NLT) has committed a total of R2 million to support liquor traders who have suffered the recent devastation of flooding in KwaZulu-Natal. The support will be in a form of food parcels and credit allowances for restocking and rebuilding.

NLT is working closely with KZN Liquor Traders' Association to identify liquor traders who have been affected by the floods to immediately activate its support packages.

It is also reaching out to community-based organisations, including churches, it said in a statement on Sunday.

Lucky Ntimane, convener of NLT said: "We remain extremely concerned by the sheer loss of life in KZN as a result of the recent flooding experienced in the area, and our immediate priority is to reach out to those most affected by this flooding disaster starting with our constituency, the liquor traders, who have really been battling on all fronts just to survive and keep their businesses afloat in the past two years."

Mike Khumalo, chairperson of the KZN Liquor Traders' Association, said: "As liquor traders, we will do our part in supporting our communities in these trying times. The floods of the recent days have really affected our members' ability to earn an income to support their families."
