Barloworld, which has written down R1 billion in the value of its Equipment Eurasia business following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has also been forced to cancel contracts worth $150 million (~R2.4 billion) because of sanctions against Russia.

Barloworld is the official Caterpillar dealer in parts of Russia, which is part of its Equipment Eurasia operations.

US-headquartered Caterpillar has been manufacturing its industrial equipment used in sectors such as mining and construction in Russia since 2000. But Caterpillar suspended its Russian manufacturing operations in March, leaving Barloworld with orders that couldn’t be filled.
