Absa chairwoman, Wendy Lucas-Bull has been elected lead the Shoprite board effective immediately, as Christo Wiese bade farewell to the company after 40 year of leading the board.

Over 99% of Shoprite shareholders voted for Lucas-Bull, who was already a member of the retailer's board. Shoprite first announced a year ago that Wiese will be retiring from its board after this year's AGM after a majority of the group's shareholders voted against his re-election.

"This is my last AGM in my capacity as chair after 40 years. We were very lucky to have a successor like Wendy," said Wiese during the company's 2020 annual general meeting (AGM).
