Shoprite vs. Pick n Pay vs. Woolworths: It's clear who's winning the shopping war

New trading data shows that Shoprite is winning the trolley wars, with Pick n Pay making inroads and Woolworths lagging behind.

In the past week, the retailers each published trading updates for different periods, which means they’re not strictly comparable. But some analysts say trends are emerging.  

For the year to 3 July, Shoprite – which also owns Checkers – grew its sales by almost 10% to R184 billion.
