Hitting back at fierce industry criticism, Transnet has denied its rail operations are in free fall, but admits it is faced with severe issues that have culminated at once to significantly hamper performance.
In an exclusive interview with Fin24, Ali Motala - a long-time Transnet employee who was recently appointed managing executive of Transnet Freight Rail’s North Corridor - said the issues of cable theft and vandalism and an inability to procure locomotive spares have converged to create significant issues on the line.
