Almost a third of businesses that had budgeted salary increases in April are no longer going ahead with those, new research by Old Mutual's Remchannel shows.

The harsher restrictions under adjusted lockdown level 4 and the recent unrest have changed some businesses' ability to afford salary increases, and they've turned their focus on preserving jobs instead.

Remchannel conducts two salary surveys a year, in October and in April. Most of the respondents are large, privately owned and listed companies. It also runs an online salary survey which comprises 85% of the top 100 companies in SA.
