Eskom has successfully returned four generation units to service, taking generation capacity to the highest it has been this year, the utility said on Thursday evening.

More than 1 500 MW had been added to the system thanks to the repairs, spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said via voice message. Total generation capacity has now reached over 34 000 MW, its highest this year so far.

On Wednesday, Eskom warned that demand for electricity had also peaked.
