POWER UPDATE: Eskom says no load shedding planned over long weekend

accreditation

Eskom has said it does not expect to have to institute power cuts over the long weekend.

In a status update on Friday evening, the power utility said demand for electricity is expected to reduce significantly on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

"As we continue to reduce unplanned breakdowns load shedding is not expected from the 14th to the 16th of December," it said, adding that it would continue to use emergency reserves to supplement capacity if necessary.

The utility warned, however, that the power system remains vulnerable, and cuts could be implemented at short notice.

Eskom did not institute rotational power cuts on Saturday or on Sunday.
