What South Africa is currently experiencing is not yet the new normal, and there is little value in complaining about the "new normal" brought about by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and related lockdowns, says futurist Dr Morne Mostert, director of the Institute for Futures Research at Stellenbosch University.

This is because in the South African context, the "old normal" was already not working. The coronavirus crisis has, therefore, simply shown up the cracks many claimed to have been present in South Africa and its economy even before the pandemic hit.
