Kieswetter laments governance failure at SARS: 'We could have done better'

SA Revenue Service Commissioner Edward Kieswetter says the tax authority made a number of missteps in the past which affected its relationship with willing and compliant taxpayers, which it hopes to correct in 2020 and in the future.

Kieswetter was speaking at a virtual panel discussion during the 2020 Tax Conference, organised by the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants.

He said the Covid-19 pandemic had rocked the revenue collector, which may suffer from a tax revenue shortfall of up to R300 billion.
