A new awareness of boundaries and burnout, a re-evaluation of what's important when faced with mortality. These are just some of the reasons executive coach and organisational change expert Phephile Simelane believes are behind the Great Resignation trend sweeping the globe, leaving some companies with record turnover rates.

"[There is] a pattern that people want to break away from," says Simelane.

Simelane says because Covid-19 has brought home a sense of mortality for many, more and more people view life differently. For some, a title and paycheque is no longer worth delaying the things they are passionate about until retirement. Others are simplifying their lives to focus on what underlines their worth.
