South Africa's new Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has paid back all the money he owed the South African Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (Sactwu), its general secretary Andre Kriel has confirmed.

Since his appointment on Thursday night, Godongwana has faced renewed scrutiny about his involvement in a company called Canyon Springs 12, which borrowed R87 million in pension fund money from Sactwu in 2007 via a group called Trilinear Capital. Canyon Springs was liquidated before the money was repaid.

On Friday André Kriel, Sactwu's general secretary, said Godongwana and the union signed a written agreement on 25 January 2017 that he would pay back money to the union.
