The transition away from coal is both inevitable and imminent, and decision-makers must end plans for new coal plants and move swiftly to protect workers and communities in the coal value chain.
This was a key message in a working paper developed for the Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) by independent non-profit think tank the Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS). It was commissioned by the PCC to develop the working paper, which informed a policy brief published in September 2021.
It forms part of the input for the PPC's just transition planning.
