Finance Minister Tito Mboweni should direct more funds to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), so that it can improve its capabilities in ensuring efficient tax collections, say several industry experts.

Mboweni will table the national Budget on 24 February. During the Medium-term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) in October 2020, Treasury outlined that government aimed to raise R40 billion in taxes over the next four years – with R5 billion to be raised in the 2021/22 fiscal year.
