The reintroduction of the social relief of distress grant is estimated to cost around R23 billion, an economist says, amid concern about the fiscal implications of the move.

President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday announced the R350-a-month Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant would be reinstated until March 2022.
