The City of Cape Town has warned residents of the metropolitan municipality that power outages are expected to occur in the city's areas this week due to maintenance work.

Areas affected include Somerset West, Claremont, Newlands, Diep Rivier, Century City, Kraaifontein and Constantia.

The warning of outages in Cape Town comes after a week of Eskom implementing stage 2 and stage 4 load shedding on multiple occasions around the country.

City of Cape Town spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo told Fin24 that the interruptions to power due to maintenance work were likely to run from Monday through to Sunday.

"In certain areas we've informed them of a switch off during certain hours while the lines are maintained in the specific road or area," Tyhalibongo told Fin24.

The maintenance is due to interrupted electricity supply in areas that are serviced by the city and are not related to Eskom's load shedding schedule.
