The deadline for the implementation of the remaining provisions of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) is less than a week away and the gravity of the process has now dawned on people.
Many companies have left it too late, despite having had a grace period of 12 months to ensure they amend their systems, procedures and policies to become fully compliant.
The key sections that come into effect on 1 July include the eight conditions for the lawful processing of personal information, dealing with special personal information (such as race, health, religion) and direct marketing.
