While on the surface, data has been showing a decline in South Africans using loyalty programmes, team which studies them closely, says in SA these schemes are "maturing" rather than declining.

The financial hardships brought on by Covid-19 have also made some people more engaged with their loyalty programmes to supplement their stretched incomes.
