Most governments fail miserably at running a cohesive government, and SA is no exception. But the cost of operating in silos is high, says Jabulani Sikhakhane.

The biggest challenge facing any government is the coordination of its activities so it can deal holistically with problems facing a country. This is because most socio-economic problems that governments have to deal with, poverty being the most obvious example, straddle a number of public policy areas.
