If vanadium redox flow batteries really take off, demand for vanadium would soar. South Africa, which currently supplies around 8% of the world’s vanadium, is said to have the highest-grade deposits on the planet, writes Nick Hedley.
With a little bit of vision – granted, that’s a lot to ask of the current ANC government – South Africa could become a leading global producer of vanadium and lithium battery storage technologies. Considering the economic and job opportunities this would bring, it’s a no-brainer.
