We may get a reprieve from load shedding in the near term, but it won't mask the fact that solutions have not been adequately implemented. And there's no queue of people lining up to take over the reins of Eskom's leadership, writes Nolwandle Mthombeni

The destruction caused by state capture has rendered many of our state-owned entities (SOEs) broken. Despite many of the problems stemming from years of corruption, the people currently at the helm of SOEs are expected to fix the problems instead of shifting the blame to predecessors. As such, we need to go back to take a different approach when it comes to the expectations of a CEO that is rehabilitating an SOE, as well as how future appointments are made to ensure the right fit.

Under Stage 6 load shedding, many South Africans were spending more of their waking hours without electricity than with it. The prolonged load shedding at these higher stages left many feeling that our country is cascading into an abyss. Naturally, this has drawn the ire of many, with calls being made for a change in leadership at Eskom.
