The sector’s recovery momentum is reflected in the positive business confidence reported by the Agricultural Business Chamber, says Sifiso Ntombela.
The South African agricultural sector is showing signs of recovery after a prolonged period of contraction between 2014 and 2018, which was induced by severe drought and a series of trade-distorting disease outbreaks, such as foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever. Agriculture was further insulated by Covid-19 regulations, helping it register a positive growth in 2020.
