Be my robo-Valentine

Ever since David Levy published Sex with Robots: The Evolution of Human-Robot Relations, fantasies have been flying. Most involve having a back-up for when your partner isn't in sync with your mood for luuurve.

Levy, a PhD in gender studies and artificial intelligence, is leader of the pack that believes that the progress in mimicking human movements, combined with artificial intelligence, potentially puts us one step away from having real relations – carnal or other – with Robocop.Personally, I find real people more alluring than toys.

Something that exercises free will about whether to submit to your charms, and puts effort into seducing you, simply has to be more interesting and challenging than something with an on-off switch (although I have known men for whom, at certain stages of their lives, these boundaries seem to blur).

We're releasing some of the results of Health24's Great South African Sex Survey today, and they make fascinating reading. We found some presumptions confirmed (like the greater promiscuity of men); and some shattered (what makes men fall in love, for instance). We also found out some eye-watering information about what people get up to behind closed doors (or, in fact, outdoors, as it happens).

Keep an eye on the site over the next couple of weeks for regular updates as analysis continues.
