Gordhan confirms: 'Sugar tax' coming later this year

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan confirmed on Wednesday that the proposed “sugar tax” will be implemented later in 2017.

Gordhan said that following on from consultations on the tax on sugary beverages, “… working closely with the department of health, the proposed design has been revised to include both intrinsic and added sugars.”

He said that the tax would be implemented once details were finalised, and legislation passed.
