Dear SLI,

There are a number of symptoms listed to diagnose ADHD; some of the most common being:
-constant fidegeting
-not completing work on time
-avoiding tasks requiring sustained effort
-loosing things

The important things to remember is that the symptoms are present in two or more settings; have been present before the age of 7 years and that the symptoms have a negative impact on the child's life.

As the above (very short) list could be attributed to nearly every child, it is also important that these behaviours are present in excess of what would be expected of a child the same age.

As ADHD is genetic, there is a higher chance your little one may have it, but not definite. If you do not wish to medicate, I would suggest seeing a psychologist rather a psychiatrist as psychiatrists treat with medication while psychologists don't.

Kind regards,
