SOFT LASER
I AM 51 YRS OLD AND HAVE A GOOD SKIN I HAVE BEEN TOLD. I HAVE BEEN GOING FOR PLACECOL SOFT LASER TREATMENT EACH MONTH FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. SOME THERAPISTS SAY THIS WILL ONLY HELP A YOUNGER SKIN. SHOULD I CARRY ON OR WOULD I DO BETTER BY GOING FOR A FULL FACIAL USING GATINEAU OR ENVIRON OR SUCH. I USE DERM-A-GEL PRODUCTS AT THE MOMENT BUT WOULD LIKE TO TRY THE NEOSTRATA IF I CAN FIND OUT WHERE TO OBTAIN IT IN PORT ELIZABETH. THANKS FOR A VERY INTERESTING COLUMN.

Hello Karien, thank you for the question and glad to hear you find the forum interesting.
I must be honest and start by commenting that I cannot find any information regarding the technology used in the Soft Laser. The companies (Placecol) web page does not give any information regarding their technology used nor do they direct one to any studies. My advice would be for you to start a good topical regime in combination with skin rejuvenation.
Your topical regime should include sun protection (SPF with zinc or titanium), a range like NeoStrata, Nimue etc. that contain active ingredients, and one should consider performing monthly glycolic acid peels (performed by a trained doctor). Please phone Genop Pharmaceuticals in Jhb. (011) 545 6600 and ask them to give you the closest doctor who supplies NeoStrata in PE.
Skin rejuvenation can be performed with either laser or IPL/Bipolar Radiofrequency. Skin rejuvenation will give you a combination of effects: increased collagen and elastin, improved skin laxity, pigmentation removal, vein removal, and an overall ‘youthfull glow’. My personal preference is the use of IPL/Bipolar Radiofrequency.
