Broken Nose
Please could you let me know what I need to look out for 3-4 days after a bad knock and possibly broken nose, my 11 year old daughter knocked the bridge of her nose against a concrete pit on monday. After looking up on the internet it seemed nothing can be really done till the swelling goes down there is very little bruising and she has been taking Ponstan for the pain, since yesterday she has been complaining of headaches and I an trying to cut down on the pain medication.
Could this just be a rebound headache or could she still have a possible underlying problem.
I have an appointment with her ENT on Tuesday.

Dear Debby,
The two dangers are concussion and a broken nose - the swelling must go down before they'll do anything about the nose - ice packs and anti-inflammatories like Ponstan will be fine for now. Concussed patients can be off-balance, nauseous, more sleepy than usual, headachy. However, with such a hard fall, I am always worried about neck injuries too - so please just take her to your dr for possible neck and head x/ray and evaluation of neurological status?
