Diet for osteoporosis
Hi I am a 32 year old and have been diagnosed with osteoporosis about a year and a half ago what whould you suggest for diets and treatments?

Dear Tania,

Thank you for your question. As I am sure you are aware, to have Osteoporosis at your age is quite unusual and does require you to take serious action now to avoid significant problems in the future. Firstly, I trust that your GP or physician has carried out tests to ensure that your Osteoporosis is not secondary to another condition.

With reagrds to diet, I would suggest that you eat a balanced healthy diet. This should include all of the major food groups. You should stay away from high animal fat and convinience foods. Also include dairy products, green leafy vegetable and some meat to ensure an adequate supply of calcium. Also, ensure that eat enough food to maintain a healthy weight. I would also suggest that you supplement your diet with calcium, magnesium, boron and Vitamin C.

In addition to dietary changes, it is important to make other lifestyle changes. If you smoke, stop immediately. Reduce alcohol consumption to less that 14 units per week. Take at least 20 minutes of weight bearing exercise every week.

Also, I suggest that you do a google serach regarding Osteoporosis and diet as there is a huge amount of information available on the net.
