Dear Doc

Apologies! I should have mentioned I was referring to the GU TRACT EXT IDENT test! I understand you reply to loads of questions and wouldn't have remembered what test I was referring to!

The new "pathologist forum" has answered my question thank you. He said it is a biochemical identification of an organism, ie. gram negative bacteria like E.coli. and is a very necessary step on which your treatment would be based.

Generally it answers my question adequately.

Glad you got your answer. I suspect it is the "extended spectrum beta lactamase" (ESBL) that you are referring to. Anyway thanks for the feedback.
