Can smoking add to high blood pressure during pregancy? What causes it?

Smoking can add to high blood pressure during pregnancy due to the working of the nicotine, but apart from this it is bad for baby’s health, since it uses his / her oxygen and can cause growth-retardation. High blood pressure may result in premature birth and all the risks going with this.
