Me Again!!
Hi Dr P
I've got another question if you don't mind. I had a Nephrectomy last year April. Pieces of two of my bottom left ribs were removed. Because karate is such a contact sport, I need to know what is that ribs suppose to protect? I must enter in the SA Championships in May and scared to be kicked in that area. And the other problem is is that the ribs were cut of in such a way it feels they're pressing against my muscles everytime I stretch or do a sudden movement.
Please advise
Thanks a lot

Hi ys
As you know , I'm suré, having one kidney is not a problem.
The ribcage protects your heart, lungs and on the lower back, your kidneys. The ribs can always be injured anyway, but that can happen anytime. It shouldn't stop you doing the championship.
With time, your muscles and kidneys should adapt to each other.
Good luck
