Dear Pete,
You don't have to have a scab for it to heal. Something that works very well is if you wash it clean with soap, and if there are yellow crusts on it, put granuflex dressing on it - the granuflex needs to stay on for 3 days. It will make a yucky yellow soup inside, but that is normal, it breaks down all the dead burnt tissue. As soon as the wound is nice and pink ( eventhough wet) you can put Opsite plain ( without wound dressing) on it - Opsite is like a plastic "skin" that would keep the germs out but give the wound just enough fluid and air to make new cells in it. Try to replace the opsite only every 3-4 days - it is quite expensive. You may shower or bath with it. It will take about a week to heal.
