Hello Doctor,

Please can you help? If an HIV positive person coughs and sputum hits the eye, can a person contract HIV? What if the sputum contains traces of blood? Is it true that the amount of blood required for transmission via this mode will be seen?

You will actually need a drop/splash of blood in the eye to be at risk - not likely to be transmitted by droplet mist of coughing
