familial hyper cholesterolemia
Altough I have a medical aid, lipitor is to expensive. Will a totaly fat free diet eg. as proposed by Dr Dean Cornish an American cardiologist help ? I had a 5 heart bypass 7 years ago. My diet consists of oat bran,beans, fruit and rye bread. I use vita E, Nicotinic acid and vita B complex.

Gerald, if you have a medical aid, you should be able to get Lipitor® on the chronic medicine option, so it shouldn’t cost you a cent. A fat-free diet will only go so far as your body can make it’s own cholesterol without you having to eat any fat. If you cholesterol doesn’t come down to acceptable levels on your current diet, the best would be to contact your medical aid and enquire about the chronic medication benefit. Good luck.
