Gangerene
Mom (age 61) diagnosed with Gangerene (veins damaged from knee down). Toe nails are loose and starting to go black. Cracks under and top of toes and cracks on foot. Was told to keep the sores moist - using Jelonet. In a lot of pain - Temogesic 0.2mg is not helping much - she lives on paracetemol resulting in nausea & bringing up and not eating. I need some advice as to how to treat the sores and what can is an effective & cheap pain killer. She is a pensioner and no medication was prescribed from the Govt Hosp.

If she has tissue that is going black she needs to see a surgeon for a follow up - dead tissue can get infected, and this can spread to the healthy tissue. The pain can be due to nerve pain - if Temgesic does not help, try a combination of paracetamol with codeien like Dolorol Forte. Keep the raw areas clean and try antibiotic cream like Bactroban on the areas? I wonder if you shouldn't get a second opinion too?
